University of Oregon’s

Operations & Business Analytics Club

Our Mission

We  provide OBA-interested students with the skills and resources for an empowering pathway after graduation. This entails relating our classroom learning with real-world applications. We connect with businesses through guest speakers on campus and company site visits around the Pacific Northwest. We hold workshops and collaborate with other University of Oregon organizations. If you’re interested in joining a learning community and making yourself competitive post-graduation, this is the club for you.

What we’ve been up to

Project Partnership with Lithia & Driveway and UO Professional Edge

Each term, cohorts of 10-12 students are given the opportunity to engage in a data analytics project for Lithia & Driveway, a Fortune 500 company. Throughout this project, students develop essential analytics skills through Power BI training and enhance their professional growth via networking opportunities. They also gain practical experience by delivering a final, data-driven  presentation to professionals at Lithia & Driveway.

Guest Speakers from local companies such as Nike & Intel

We aim to bring in atleast 2 guest speakers each term to speak to club members about professional development, career paths, and working as an OBA professional.

Site tours: Target Distribution Center

We aim to tour sites of local companies to provide members with a fresh perspective on life after graduation in the professional world.

What is Operations and Business Analytics?

Operations

Operations in the business world involve managing processes and resources to produce goods and services efficiently. This includes overseeing production, ensuring quality control, and optimizing workflow to minimize waste and meet customer demands. The goal is to ensure smooth, effective operations that support the business strategy.

Business Analytics

Business analytics uses data and statistical methods to understand business performance and inform decisions. Analysts collect and interpret data using tools like Excel, Power BI, Tableau, R, and Python. The goal is to improve strategies, optimize operations, and identify growth opportunities.
